Being held today and all the indications are that the far right National Front will win in Nord Pas De Calais - Picardie which is no great surprise with the problems there at the moment.

The exit polls suggest success for the far right who have clearly benefited from the events in Paris last month.

When you keep ignore what the public are telling you, don't be surprised when it all bows up in your faces .

Philippe Mignonet in Moscow yesterday talking on RT, polishing his image as an international statesman. He is definitely one to watch. In Calais he is the power behind the throne but it's Natacha Bouchart who gets the flak.

Totally agree Peter. Have met him on many occasions. He is well respected in & around Calais. Definitely the "coming man".

Unless things have changed in the last few years mayors in France had a lot more power than their British equivalents. A deputy mayor over here would never have much sway either, oh hang on a minute.

This guy is talented & politically savvy across all parties. Knows the moves.
Mayors certainly have more powers than Leaders but tend to have to use the Prefecture system [unelected] to achieve real completeness for their patches. Often the Mayors are also the MP's .

I've never met him but we are Facebook 'fwends'. A good point in his favour is that he is fluent in English and understands the British.
