foreign criminals can stay in the uk
MPs have voted to reject a bid by nearly 100 rebel Tory MPs to stop foreign criminals using European human rights law to avoid deportation.
But MPs did vote in favour of Home Secretary Theresa May's plan to strip foreign-born terror suspects of UK citizenship, by 297 to 34.
The rebel plan only failed thanks to opposition from Labour and Lib Dem MPs.
No 10 - anticipating a big rebellion - had ordered Tory ministers to abstain rather than oppose the backbenchers.
If, as had been expected at one stage, Labour MPs had also abstained, the rebel amendment would have succeeded. In the event it was defeated by 241 to 97.
BBC political editor Nick Robinson said David Cameron had "simply ordered his troops to retreat in the face of embarrassment" and the episode illustrated the difficulty the prime minister had with controlling his own backbenchers.
Dominic Raab - the Tory MP behind the amendment - told MPs it was time the law was changed so foreign criminals could no longer use Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights - a right to a family life - to escape deportation.

amazes me that an issue about getting shot of convicted terrorists, murderers, rapists, torturers and the like comes down to a party political game.
the political class is completely out of touch with the public .

Agree with your post 2 Howard.
We should never even allow foreign criminals to serve their sentence here - why should we pay for it ?
It is a sad indictment on our politicians that they can't use their brains when voting on serious matters.

I think it is obvious how our Dover MP voted! He wants to abolish the human rights act altogether.

I don't think it's a case of abolishing Human Rights Chrissi, but much of the ECHR is nonsense and illogical and we can't do many of the obvious things we should be able to do.

That is exactly how I see it Roger.
We seem to have had some completely daft interpretations of human rights where the criminal has more rights than those he/she has offended against.

And he never will, Keith.
Foreign criminals use our money (The State's funds) to pay lawyers to represent them to take the Government to Court, they win, and receive compensation on top of it. And these lawyers stick thousands of pounds of your and my money in their pocket for each foreign rapist and murderer they represent.
There's only one party, mate. Come over join us!

seeing that article in post 12 reminds me of a much more serious incident in canterbury 2/3 years back when a lithuanian chap murdered his partner. turned out he had served time in his own country, sweden and germany for violent crimes before he ended up here.
criminals can move freely around member states without any checks being made because in effect there are no real ports of entry. the 2 thugs mentioned in post 12 must have had a criminal record before they arrived here. no-one suddenly goes out armed with a pepper spray.
