    Well I'd certainly like to know what a 'middle class student type' is. I was in universities for 17 years (as student and manager) and I've never come across an example of one of these. Nigerian nurses - yes, ex-cons retraining as lawyers - yes, Chinese managers - yes, drunken philosophers - yes, intemperate geographers offloading the contents of their handbags into my lap - yes. You get the point.

    So unless it means 'someone from a middle class background who is a student' (which is so vague as to be virtually meaningless for anything other than statistical purposes) or perhaps 'someone who looks like a student but isn't one really' (but then students are anything from grunge to besuited) my guess is that the term was being used to lend intellectual credibility to something that has none.
