All the headlines refer to a migrant crisis but all that has shown is the brutal reality that each member state looks after number one. The migrants arrive in two of the poorest countries in the EU and they get criticised for doing enough for the arrivals. Barbed wire fences are being erected all over after border staff were overrun in those countries. Mrs Merkel insists that we take many even though we are not a signatory to the Schengen agreement.
The situation gets ever more bizarre with Czech police hauling migrants off of trains headed to Germany so that they can write a registration on their arms with permanent marker pens. Up until a day or so ago Hungary was keeping them out (got criticised for that) they then let many in to buy train tickets to Germany but stop them boarding the trains!!
So much for the European Union.

I was at a meeting tonight in rural Northamptonshire attended by less than 30 people. One had been held up on Eurostar near Lille all night because of the migrants in the tunnel and another was caught in a very long hold up (desperate for a loo) because of the problems with the strikers in Calais at the weekend. These first hand experiences being shared widely and all the press coverage of the migrant crisis is bound to put people off travelling abroad through east Kent.

It's not true that each member state looks after number one.
The uk will always put the uk last.

There has been no announcement yet but it is widely expected that the UK will take 1000 refugees from the border camps to go with the 5000 already here. The logic is that if we took some already in Europe it would encourage others to make the dangerous sea crossing.

Which proves we are a caring country when it about
genuine refugees. I would much rather have those from war torn areas than put up with those who come here simply because they feel like it as their country of origin is an EU member.

Our record on this issue is better than most, we have given more in aid to the border camps than the rest of the EU put together. the 5000 refugees already here were selected on the grounds of vulnerability due to age, disabilities etc. None of those could afford expensive sea crossings and trains through Europe.

Looks like we are taking another 4000 from the camps, at least we know they are genuine unlike the economic migrants that only want to get to Germany. Where they seem to get all this money from is a mystery.

Keep up Keith....Cameron has just given another £100 million this afternoon along with a promise to take in 'thousands' of Syrian refugees.

The leaders of the Czech republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary held an emergency summit today and reached the conclusion that the situation is out of control. Not much gets past them but anyway they have all rejected the German Idea of a binding quota for each member state - so there!!
Czech Republic and Slovakia are ready to allow a "railway corridor" for Syrians travelling from Hungary to Germany if both countries are agreeable.

I hope any large movement of 'refugees' is thoroughly security checked as you could move an army by train.....the EU crisis could become an Isis crisis without proper checks!
Just a thought.

Just read that very few Syrian refugees are in camps as there are none in the Lebanon where there are a million and only 15% in Turkey. Most exist in derelict buildings so will feel immediately at home on the Folkestone Road.

Osborne is hinting at more military involvement against ISIS in order to stop the flow of refugees and public opinion is very much in favour, even the Archbishop of Canterbury supports the idea.
