GaryC - why are you so obsessed with raising tax?

It is a total diversion from the very real problems with the economy. Foreign companies do not pay tax here, so what? Are you going to ban people from using Amazon? We have a global economy as I said before and we have to make sure we adjust our policies to meet that.

I would love the UK to be a low-tax, low-regulation and pro-business country because that is the way to more jobs and prosperity from which everyone can benefit. Call it a 'tax-haven' if you wish, I don't because we need not go as far as places such as the Caymans that really are tax-havens in the true sense, be nice if we could though!

To be successful we must embrace successful people and companies and encourage them.

The dead hand of the State with the high taxes that go with it are the real enemy for all of us. Look at the more successful economies in the world now, look at where the growth is - it is not in the over-regulated, over taxed European economies.

The most successful recent finance minister in Europe was interviewed in the Speccy this week.

He is Anders Berg of Sweden.
He and his Conservative government has eliminated Sweden's deficit.
His main weapon = tax cuts, going against Sweden's conventional wisdom, that includes tax cuts for those on over £51,000 a year (their top rate used to be an appalling 57%). He also argued his case and led from the front arguing against any debt fuelled stimulus. The tax cuts were so large they effectively gave the average Swede an extra month's salary a year. He is weak on deregulation and the Swedes are still over-taxed but he has shown how damaging high taxes are to an economy and how lower taxes can boost prosperity, growth and jobs.

Blimey - to show just how much Sweden has changed, they have even embraced profit making schools....all to the better.
