Congratulations to Sadiq Khan who kept his dignity despite the vile stuff thrown at him, a victory for ordinary Londoners.

Not surprising to see an Islamic city vote in an islamist

The best candidate won a clear majority, the Muslim Conservatives were canvassing for Goldsmith until he came out with his terrorist insinuations.
I don't know the percentage of Muslims living in London but I doubt more than 20% whilst Khan got 53% of the vote.

Just checked and according to the 2011 census Muslims make up 12.4 % of the population of London.

It will be interesting to see what state London is in after his four year stint.

I doubt there will be many changes the overriding issue is housing - lack of/cost of and that is down to market forces and little space left to build more.
Khan has made public transport an issue with his promise to freeze fares using the sell off of TFL owned land to pay for it. The problem is that tube trains, buses and Dockland Light Railway are running to capacity and don't need any more passengers.

I think Khan is over stepping the mark by getting into a war of words with Trump when he should be concentrating on London's problems which he was elected to work on .

So Khan considers DonaldTrump to be ignorant and doesn't understand Islam? I would guess that Trump is more than aware of what Islam is all about.
As for Khan's comments that the various religions in London "don't just tolerate each other, we respect, we celebrate, we embrace" l haven't previously noticed much of that being carried out by people of his own faith in various parts of the world, the south of Thailand being a good example, where thousands of murders have been committed by his supposedly tolerant and respectful companions.
On the other hand perhaps I've got it wrong and there's a different type of "Islam" in London?

Khan and his family come across as normal people who happen to be muslims and I would think they mix with similar types. He has always strongly opposed extremism and has been the the victim of death threats from those who oppose his views on same sex marriage.

John, so all Muslims should be considered to speak on behalf of all other Muslims and be held accountable for the actions of all other Muslims? How does that work for you on behalf of all Christians?

John seems to have the same ingorance and lack of understanding of islam as Trump, and has the sort of attitude that only contributes to the extremist minority.

Actually Reg I understand Islam only too well. I would be interested to know though what is that you think both myself and Mr. Trump doesn't understand about Islam? Perhaps I've got it all wrong and it really is the religion of peace? Although having said that, we all know that it's not really a religion as such, it's just a political ideology isn't it?
Ross, I appreciate that there's good and bad in all walks of life and as Howard has illustrated perhaps Khan is actually one of the good guys, but for what it's worth, I personally disagree with what he said about Trump.
Sorry if my own personal beliefs have upset anybody.

Try reading the Koran then maybe you would have a better understanding of Islam and not talk nonsense.

I have actually read a lot of holy stuff over the years and with all due respect to believers of all faiths there are so many contradictions and advice that fitted in with the way things were at the time they were written. The Koran gave me the most laughs I could only get a third of the way through because some of the Suras bordered on the ridiculous. One of the best bits was a list of who not to have sex with - mother, father, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles etc. My favourite was on decision making, if there is not a man available then 4(might have been more) women were the equivalent. I asked a local Imam to explain this, he discussed this with his fellow scholars and a week later he told me because women had periods!!

Agreed Howard some strange ideas but little on espousing violence and hatred, about the same as the old testament. So many people have their views on religion but when challenged on detail it turns out the knowledge comes from anti- propaganda or tabloid journalism, so few have bothered to try and find out what the religion teaches and involves.

Thank you Reg for your astute reply, I obviously stand corrected by your superior knowledge on this particular subject. I really must sign up for a diversity and cultural awareness course in order to assist my return to mainstream thinking.
I will also attempt another go at the Koran as you suggest, I obviously missed the bits where they love and welcome with open arms all other faiths etc., especially the Jews apparently?
