    I think to a point Jan's correct
There's also some seats that remain in a parties hands even though that cllr does little in the ward..

On the national arena leaders do come and go but its important for democracy to have a good opposition holding the govt to account

Under the present system only 1 of 2 parties will ever be the govt and so the present
Opposition if it moves away from the left will lose membership
And as seen in the Blair years not replace them with foot soldiers

Although its good to have a radical agenda it needs to also have public support which I think will take many years to achieve

In the local arena cllrs need to engage with communities all the year round
