    It's insomnia notes (on history, political change, where we are, how we got here, where we're going, etc.) not essay, but perhaps a prolegommenon to a Spenglerian masterpiece (by which time I hope it's 'Dostoevsky').

    (I must warn fellow pedants that DC gets off to a bad start with a spelling mistake in his first paragraph, 'wondered' for 'wandered', but recovers quickly. It could be a play on the homonym, of course: surely we all wandered around foreign cities wondering at them in our youth? Though for my epiphany I didn't fly to Naples but Interrailed to Tito's Belgrade, and the dog-eared novel in my pack was Brave New World not The Devils.)

    Who knows, after this Lermontov might be back on the forum!
