  There is zero causal link between officers pay and the economic fortunes of any given place
  
  Officers are not paid to inspire, they are paid to deliver the ruling parties policies and underlying statutory requirements, the fact that many officers go beyond this is laudable and should be recognised.
  
  It is the role of our elected members to inspire, show leadership, show sound judgement etc.
