    Whilst I agree that selecting a candidate that is actually living in the ward is usually more desirable, it does presuppose that the parties in question get candidates from those wards putting themselves forward. Unfortunately that isn't always the case. I know that Labour actively encourage members from within the ward to step forward but still it doesn't always happen.



    Last October there were 3 Town Council by elections. The Labour party in their wisdom parachuted in a candidate from River to the Maxton, Elms Vale and Priory ward with the obvious result. Meanwhile on the same day a Labour party activist who lived in the ward stood in Castle ward instead with the inevitable result.
