I wouldn't have thought that being upbrung in 'leafy sussex [sic]' is a worthy disparagement for a modern day politician. Our right Charlie is Huntingdon born, and went around the houses in Lambeth, Dulwich, St Albans and Westminster trying to find a political home before renting Dover. This is no defence of Ms Cornell, by the way, rather a reflection on the nature of the shadow democracy that we live under now. Politics is a career not a calling, and we are not well-served by it.

Talking of shadows (and back on topic), a rather predictably German expressionist budget, I thought, with the undead neoliberal Nosferatu negotiating the precarious angles and plunging his fangs yet again into the neck of our pale, exhausted body, assuaging us with little 'jokes' and reassuring us that our blood is for a good cause.
