The Referendum was advisory - but I do not know why everyone gets so worked up about it - the Parliamentary vote was only ever going to rubber stamp it. To be honest, it has been quite helpful as future Governments will know what the rules are before going down the referendum road in future.

The interesting bit will be the technical detail in the Report and Committee stages of the Bill, as this is where the amendments can come in. They won't be wrecking amendments, obviously, but they may push the Government further than it wants to go on issues like the single market.

What does annoy me, is this overwhelming talk of the will of the people - this implies some huge movement towards the exit door when actually, the difference between those voting in and out was only 1.2m people - that from a country of 60 odd million. A majority, yes - but not some enormous mandate that means scrutiny and due process should be abandoned.
