The whole Brexit thing has been a shambles from start to finish. The vote was only called because the PM needed a quick fix to shut UKIP up and a few right wing loons on his own party. Of course, losing never crossed his mind.

The campaign was fought at best on dodgy facts, at worst with outright lies. People took sides as they perceived it to suit their political career, not on what they genuinely believed. For some, it worked, like May; for others it didn't, like Gove and Boris.

It is therefore fitting that at the bottom of all this nonsense, nobody actually knew what they were doing in terms of process either and it turns out that Parliament has the final say. The end result will be that we still leave the EU, but the Government will have to, rightly, work bloody hard on the detail not just wing it. That is good. The right wing press will obviously work themselves into a frenzy, but they have their own agenda of course.

The final irony in all of this of course is for all that Farage and co. banged on about Parliamentary sovereignty, that is exactly what they got.
