In passing - a tale from my son

(N.B. The national standard sets out that all ambulance trusts must respond to Category 1 calls in 7 minutes on average and respond to 90% of Category 1 calls in 15 minutes)

'Horrific story about our friend xxx. On Tuesday he dropped his kid off at nursery, then went directly for a run. Got to the canal towpath under the M4 and arrived at the scene of a bicycle accident.

Some middle aged guy had come off his electric bike, no other vehicles involved. A dog walker was already on the phone to 999, and xxx took over and did first aid. 999 sent a live video link text message, and a paramedic guided xxx as they tried to control the bleeding.

But it wasn't enough, and the patient bled to death in the 20 minutes the ambulance took to arrive'.

    Twenty. Minutes.
