  Medics and scientists have been telling the government not to reduce restrictions since the last lockdown as infection rates had not reduced sufficiently, but the government ignored them until they not only were facing a hospital crisis (yes in part due to non compliance by members of the public) but also needed a distraction from the growing omnishambles that is Brexit.
