22:1028510Windows 7 on Amazon, reduced from £229.99 to £159.85. Not bad until you see...
Snow Leopard (latest OS for Mac) on Amazon, reduced from £25.00 to £22.99.
Even now, after all this time, Microsoft continues to rip off all you poor PC users with its substandard OS at a vastly inflated price. I can think of no reason why Windows 7 should not be thirty quid. Not one single reason. Apart from Microsoft's rampant greed, that is.
We're using Snow Leopard at home (got the family license deal for £40) and it's great! What I've seen of Windows 7 is very poor - just a rehash of Vista which nobody even likes anyway.

07:2128513Blimey thats cheap Rick! Getting anything for a computer for £22.99 has to be a bargain if its any good. Even software to do a few bits of general artwork, like ads and photos is very expensive.
As you might remember I just got a new computer with Vista built in which seems to be okay but then I just do the few basic bits of opening Doverforum and the BBC. Of course I spend a lot of time doing photographs as well and you need an extra program for those.

08:1328514Rick, Pricing something at £229.99 then having a retail outlet selling it at £159.85 expose's the rip off straight away. We seem to take this kind of greed as common practise these days. I have not tried 7 yet but will have to, so will not comment yet, vista rubbish, macs are good, but I am happy plodding on with xp, don't download service pack 3 on old machines though.

12:2428520more priceless quotes Rick, but from what I've heard from friends with the new apple O/S it's stopped quite a bit from working. Ignoring that for a moment, I can pick up a very good spec'd PC for £600 running XP or Vista or any linux Distro, how much would the equiv spec Apple cost me? £1200?

18:4328580You get what you pay for ChrisK. My iMac cost £1000 and is by no means Apple's top spec machine, but it still out-performs eve the most high-spec PC I have ever owned. As for those programs not working under the new OS, yes there are a few but it is a minimal problem easily fixed by either installing Rosetta or getting the software developer's updates. It's a tiny price to pay for progress

12:1128673Do you have any benchmark results to back up that claim? Probably not?? MACs are beautifully designed, but spec for spec when you compare them to a PC they are overpriced.
