Interesting to see this brochure from across the Channel, a well written 28 pages of articles. Makes me wonder where the UK are at with their preparations.....
I hope Dover does something to commemorate the war.
Dover was turned into a massive infantry training camp during the war, tens of thousands of men were dispatched to the trenches from bases at Connaught, the Duke of Yorks, the Grand Shaft Barracks and The Citadel amongst others. Fort Burgoyne became a training ground for the Royal Garrison Artillery for heavy siege equipment. Not forgetting the Dover Patrol, the Royal Flying Corps, the Royal Naval Air Service and others. Dover also suffered from heavy air raids of course, perhaps not as badly as Folkestone, but still severe. Soldiers on leave also sought rest at Dover on brief returns to England. It was the last place in England that so many service men saw.
It'd be a great pity if Dover left it all to Folkestone next year. Dover was a front line town in WW1 as well as WW2 and deserves recognition as such.
