this article caught my eye because the landlord is seen as a victim when it seems to me he is the victim of his own greed.

I have just been reading that article Howard. Some people have no respect for another persons belongings now a days.

Not sure why you say he is a victim of his own greed Howard - am I missing something ?
We have a flat we rent out and the first people we rented to - a single mum and her teenage daughter, ripped us off; they sublet the flat, messed it up and cheated the Council out of benefit money. Cost us a fortune to get possesion and make it habitable again.
I gave the Council lots of info but never heard if she was caught or not.

i thought the article said it all roger.
the man let out a 4 bedroomed house to a 17 year old that had never worked and expected the taxpayer to foot the bill.
i shudder to think what the neighbours had to put up with over the time he lived there.
the houses both side of me are let out by responsible landlords that are very particular who lives in their properties meaning that they get the house looked after and i get excellent neighbours.

Not all landlords are rip off merchants and I suspect that it might have been a student house with only this moron as the actual tenant. My sympathies are with the landlord and yes the article did say it all, he picked a bad tenant much the same as we did many years ago and as did Roger.

There is a house 2 doors away from me, the landlord always seems to put bad tenants in there, we,ve had druggies, anti social behaviour, all sorts, all except decent people, they have given the young couple next door loads of grief, to the point that they moved out and went abroad for a while, their parents looked after their place whilst they were away, the last lot that was there took a wall out in the loft so that they could get into the young couples place next door and rob them blind, the young couple have come back now, but the landlord of this property has still not repaired the damage to the couples property or to his own, the young couple say that if they could pick up their home and move away they would, it seems a terrible thing when you are driven from your home, the couple have spoken to the landlord, but he takes no notice, so long as he gets the rent from these dropouts he don't care

Have the couple been to the police or council and complained. There have repeatedly been some awful people in the bedsits next door to one of my near neighbours, with help from the police the lot have been moved out. I will not say more as the landlord is known and seems to be respected by members of this forum.

You are right Jan, the Police and the CSU should be involved as both criminal acts and ASB have been committed.
Any one who suffers from bad neighbours should contact their Councillor(s), the Police and the CSU - get it tackled from every angle.
Rogue Landlords should be rooted out and publicly named and shamed, no one should have to live in such properties, with such Landlords.
Roger
Even when the tenants are ok the landlord can be a nuisance - I am still waiting for one such to move the garden crap from the bottom of the garden of the house he rents out on Albert Road (wonder if its the same landlord Jan knows...owns a builders firm), which has blighted my garden for the full 2 years. The insects and seeds blowing from it ruin what was a lovely little patio area at the bottom of my garden where I used to escape to for some peace. My Mother wanted to use it too, but died before the SOB moved the crap. I am still waiting for the brute to move it. It would take a couple of lads with wheelbarrow less than a couple of hours if they worked. And it is breaking my garden wall. If he moved the crap I would probably say no more about it, as it is if the wall breaks I expect him to pay.

when all is said and done about this 18 year old the landlord could not have got references as he had not worked anywhere and presumably would have been too young to have rented anywhere else.
i wonder how much the taxpayer paid for the rent on a 4 bedroomed property?

Yes Jan the police and council have been involved, but nothing has come to fruitition, the police are not doing anything about the people that did the stealing, and the couples father is well up on the council, but his hands seem tied, Bern this might be the same landlord, he has got into the property market these last few years.

No a different landlord who is not a builder, not that you would know it from his front and back garden.

I don't think I would describe the oaf who has broken my garden wall and left crap there for 2 years as either a builder or a landlord. My descriptions are a little more colourful, and a damn sight more accurate.........
