Today i was in buckland birthing centre for tests all morning, at around 9am Buckland was put on stand by to receive several labouring ladies from Ashford hospital as they had to close their maternity ward and the scbu due to no more beds then ten am Margate to was closed for the same reason. I must say the midwifes and workers did fab at Dover and should be proud of themselfs the way they handle this rush of newborns its worrying that some ladies from around kent would of been sent as far as to Maidstone!!!!! ive heard a few shocking stories up there today from the workers such as a raf helicopter being used to transport a very ill baby from kent all the way to Lancashire way as no scbu beds or the Kent air ambulance being available for such duties whilst the worried sick parents having to find their own way up there to be by the side of their newborns incubator. THIS ISNT GOOD ENOUGH! the way cuts are being dealt is proving LIVES WILL BE LOST!!!!!! . Rumour has it last birth at Dover is 12th feb watch this space..........

nothing surprises me in that post, i heard again today that people "voted with their feet" to go to ashford to give birth.
of course they did if all local services are run down!!
let us not forget that all ambulances now operate from ashford which does not bode well for emergency calls.

I have had three children, first and last in hospital and the middle one at home. If there are no expected problems I would recommend home birth every time. The idea of travelling to Ashford or Margate in pain and the thought of possibly giving birth in the ambulance is awful.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

It was shocking as some ladies dont get an option as classed as high risk get bounced straight to Ashford yet times like today they even were being turned away, its time this was sorted out , i must admit im worried sick over todays findings .

It gives added weight to DDC Scrutiny message to the PCT about NOT losing maternity services here. It also shows why more people should have attended the Town Hall meeting, instead of the poor 19 that bothered to turn up. Good for them tho'.
Howard - the new ambulance service means that we have two ambulance stations here in Dover - one in the current location just off of Folkestone Road and one at Whitfield, so greater coverage not less.

have to disagree on both counts roger, the decision to close maternity services was made a long time ago, all the noises from the hierarchy were meant to soften the blow.
the ambulance service is suffering, all staff have to get to ashford to start work.
if there is local coverage why do i not hear the sirens anymore?

vic,if you got somthing to say about the maternaty department at buckland then tell us.
For Gods sake - either make a point or leave it alone, but it is very irritating when you just make an ambiguous statement and claim to have no more to say. We know you will be saying more - just say it.

They may have to go to Ashford to pick up the "clean" ambulances Howard, but there are two stationed here.
We are going to revisit the SECAMB service at Scrutiny shortly.

I thought Dover locals had taken over your life VM. We are wise to your "secret" comments, maybe you should take them back there.
As a frequent visitor to BH Melissa is on sight to pass on what she knows and as Howard said - he believes her and thats good enough for me. Stop trying to be clever, you're not!
This is a worrying time for Mel, Brian and a lot of expectant mums and dads - stop making it worse.
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".
