    Starts tomorrow in football mad Brazil but clearly the public there have been against it from day one.

    The gap between rich and poor there has been documented over the decades with those at the bottom living in favelas.

    We have had the usual bit about the private sector financing the new stadia, in effect the taxpayer has had to foot a lot of the bill with the squeezed middle lamenting that they wanted their money spent on hospitals, schools, public transport etc.
