  I don't think we are too far away from desalination plants Gary. Ask F & D Water Co. My view follows yours , why landbase turbines when we have a coastal periphery that can accomodate them without despoiling our natural heritage. I think there is a consensus here on the need to conserve & recycle, without the motley theories of either side of the debate. My own view is that science may have been contributory to the problem but science can also deliver the solutions.
