Wimbledom fortnight is upon us so we will ne treated to the normal hysteria that follows any Brit that can hold a racquet correctly. Adoring fans will descend upon 'Murrays Mound' that has replaced Henmans 'Hill' as the place to see our latest hope go crashing out to some 4 year old prodigy from China.
The price of strawberries will be discussed to death along with the weather. Bring back Dan Maskell whose soft non excitable voice used to send me to sleep in front of the TV prior to the multi channel hopping days.

One of our female English wild cards has been knocked out six or seven years on the trot in the very first round despite getting a free wild card entry into the tournament every time..much consternation and hand wringing in the royal box on this news. Despite £250,000,000 million being spent on development in the past few years, still very few come through. But you are right, these same topics come up every year...ad nauseum.
I want to re-assure you Marek that strawberry prices are low this year..in the supermarkets at least. But that doesnt account for the mark-up in the leafy dales of south London.
"oooh I say" said Dan Maskell with retrained emotion when English winner Virgina Wade strode forth to collect her silver platter in 1977. She was the last homegrown winner...ermm I think. Ive lost touch in recent years.

Strawberries are a pound for each strawberry and a shop over the road in Wimbledon are flogging Strawberries and Cream butties at a £1 a throw.
Female hopes are pinned on a young Guersney girl called Helen Watson who plays today. Will be home by Wednesday no doubt.

paul makes the point about wild card entries for british players.
this is wrong and does nothing to help the development of our players, if they had to go through the qualifying tournaments it would mean something for them to be there in the first round proper.
the money lavished on facilities for our younger players is actually a hindrance rather than a help.
most come from a comfortable background and do not have the desire to succeed at the top level.

If I was a betting person I would bet that Murray will not reach the final.
I used to love watching tennis but find it boring now a case of who can hit the hardest from the base line. I doubt that Hoad or Rosewall would get very far at all with height being so important for that very fast serve.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.
