William Hague denies he was set to quit over Syria vote

William Hague dismissed rumours on Sunday that he had been on the point of resigning after MPs

voted to prevent the UK from taking military action against the Syrian government.

The Foreign Secretary conceded that last week's Commons defeat meant the UK would take no

part in US-led strikes, despite the delay caused by Barack Obama's decision to consult Congress.

When asked on Sky News whether he had considered quitting, Mr Hague said: "No."

Labour sources claimed that Mr Hague was "very, very angry" and threatened to quit over

David Cameron's decision to go straight to a parliamentary vote.
