  does anyone know what they are, two other people stopped when i got the camera out and both of them had no idea either.

  could well be jan couldn't get any clear shots, there were 3 young, one that the mum was sitting on and the two here.

  If, as it appears they have blunt beaks, they are not sandpipers. Could possibly be Kentish Plovers but the beaks look a bit blunt even for them. They look like gulls. Have just been through my book of British birds but cannot identify them.

  I thought they were gulls at first but the colouring is wrong and the legs look too long, more like those of a wader. I agree the beak should be longer for a sandpiper but it was all I could think of.
