Ok, going head to head with my husband on this. I am a glass half full person so I am going to see how many posts this one gets against Rick's!
I think the UK is a great place to live because:
We don't have any poisonous or dangerous wild animals
We have a temperate climate and variation (would be boring to be 30 degrees and sunny all year round!)
We have some of the most beautiful scenery countryside and heritage in the world (if only we all knew how to enjoy it! )
We are a very clean nation compared to many of our European counterparts
People are generally good and help each other
We have an excellent heath care system that is free at the point of delivery and available to all. Yes it has its problems but it's still the envy of the world.
We don't carry guns (mostly) and neither do the police routinely
Generally you can feel safe in most places (compare this with some south american countries!)
Generally our public services are uncorrupt (lets leave MP expenses out of this bit!) Compare this with some south american countries too.
We have a huge array of voluntary organisations determiend to make a difference
We have a huge array of people who regularly donate to those voluntary organizations.
You never have to go very far to get to the coast
Most citizens enjoy a good standard of living - there is poverty but when you compare it to many other countries it is relatively not that bad
Ok that's a starter for 13 from me - over to you guys!
Ps this is not for a political debate please!
