The post you are reporting:
Keith I will assure you that there is not, nor has there ever been, an an Alliance whip, neither actual nor implied. Our chairman is our chairman and as such serves to keep meetings on subject not to impose views on other members.
There is nothing to say about 'Mr Webb', other than wishing him a long and happy retirement, he is not now nor has ever been a member of the Alliance. As such he is free to support who he likes as long as such support does not interfere with his job and I have never known his views to do so.
To repeat myself, local elections are concerned with local issues, the only national issue that is relevant is how government policy will affect the local infrastructure and then how best to deal with it. If you are concerned about and wish to influence national or European policies then you should be standing in European or national (general) elections. It takes more to work for the towns best interests than just opposing national policy because it comes from the 'wrong party', you have to get the best out of them for the town and do your best to ward off those that are wrong for it.
Vic, there is no 'agreement' with the Conservatives, or any other party, but we can and do talk to all parties that are prepared to work for Dover. District Council is Conservative led and we have a Conservative government so of course we talk to the Conservatives, just as we work with Labour members at town level.
