Bob, In the old days (1978) when applying for a work visa for Saudi Arabia, I also had to have my CV, all my education certificates (including O levels) and previous employer references translated into Arabic at my expense, the originals certified in the manner you describe, and the translations certified by the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce and ratified by the Saudi consulate, also for the customary fee. My advice is keep all the certified copies (they normally will return them to you) in case you need them again. I have successfully used certified copies nearly 20 years old when applying for work visas for other Arab countries.
Oh, and an Islamic religious authority also had to certify the correct translation of the dates from the Gregorian calendar to the Hijra one. Again for a fee.
