In the last month we have had graffiti on the Drop Redoubt, three times where brickwork up to 150 years old has been smashed in attempts to get in, and in the last couple of days 50+ 8 inch screws driven up the wall to make a 'ladder' to get inside.
This year has been one of our most successful years with over 3,000 at our open weekends, we have had English Heritage guide walks with probably over 200 people from all over the country, guided walks, and also the chance at our monthly work parties to have a tour.
Annoyingly when I was up there this morning the was a couple in their 30s with a young lad, they guy fiddling with the locks on the door, then they read the events notice (which only ended a couple of weeks ago). I carried on around the ditch and then saw then back at the door by the engineers tunnel - he was kicking away at the door!!! I told them that they wouldn't get in like that, and then asked me why we never open it to the public !!!!!!!!!!!
Why do we bother ?
