    I think if the dog had dragged her whole hand and forearm through the letter box maliciously it would have looked worse than the picture shows. The story line is aimed to sensationalise. A couple of steri strips isn't quite the same as serious stitches.
    Like has been said above, it happens and if it does you make sure it doesn't happen again. I have had dogs for over 30 years continuous and never needed a basket and no one has ever got bitten putting things through the box. If it did happen one day then I would use a box.
