- 26 October 2010 13:2776711A wander up town this morning and a shortcut through the Charlton Centre, led me to a sign at the bottom of the stairs regarding an exhibition of art upstairs. Up there was a colourful display of various art forms, and numerous paintings from local artists, many on sale, as well as a rich variety of cards. I noted the Riverside group are involved in it. This colourful exhibition is open all week, but I haven`t heard anything about it on here or about town. I wouldn`t know about local papers. Here`s something local to go and visit, and I also spotted a picture by Ray Newsam, (forumite?).
Tell them that I came, and no one answered. - 26 October 2010 13:3276713that ray newsam bloke is a dark horse, we now know that he paints as well as playing the banjo, fermenting cider, making chutney and jam and he can ride a bicycle too.
is there no end to his talents? - 26 October 2010 13:3976715I had a very pleasant chat to the couple above who had their own studio there called, `Lauaki Studios`, which is Hawaiian I was told. Now, this is the thing that never ceases to amaze me on walkabouts. We got talking, and on being asked if I was a Dover resident we discovered the fact that the lady in the picture went to the same primary and secondary school as myself, and she knows my sister. A small world indeed, and if I hadn`t gone for that shortcut through the Charlton Centre this morning, (haven`t been in there for..... can`t remember), it may have passed unrecorded. Anyway, they`re aware of this forum now, and hopefully they`ll be looking in later. The lady is Lesley, (hope thats the correct spelling), but unsure of the gentleman`s name, but he has an audio sounds and solutions business. Thank you both very much.

I am a member there although haven't been very active this year due to other commitments. I had one of the studios for a while last year as a traditional darkroom but had to leave as all the gear was going mouldy with the rain coming through the roof (I think they have made repairs since).
Thanks for the publicity Colin, hopefully a few more will go along to see the exhbiitions, or maybe even put something in to the open exhibitions that are on regularly. - 26 October 2010 14:0776720I spotted Keith`s avatar as soon as I went in there Ray. The superb picture up the top there in the centre is of two wolves, but unfortunately the light reflection`s have hidden it. I like art of any sort, but have to say that it`s been a very long time since I`ve seen such a variety as this morning, and right on the doorstep.Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

- 27 October 2010 14:0176858Thanks Jan, and if only more people would walk about more and open their eyes, even if it`s just for the exercise as I do they`d see so much more. Incidentally, I should point out that the image`s above are of just the one studio, whereas in fact even more picture`s are to be seen on the wall`s of the surrounding corridor`s.Tell them that I came, and no one answered.
