Just as an aside, I remember the first time I sat at a high table at Oxford. The sodding cutlery seemed to extend forever on each side of the setting!!! And I was already used to a fair bit of ironmongery at a table but this was extreme! I chose to ignore it, discreetly following what others were doing if I felt the need but generally doing my own thing (no change there then!!) - much to the affectionate amusement of some of my friends. And it was affectionate amusement!! I could have taken offence, but neither I nor they were like that - besides, Life is Too Short!! And anyone who does mind about such things to the point of offence has, de facto, no class!!!
