16:2273410In Dorset of course, but why on earth has the former Archers Court school been renamed Christchurch? Who had the authority to do such a thing, and why was it renamed? I`ve been meaning to ask on here for a while, but only remember it when I`m passing the place. And the new housing nearby, why has that been named Archers Place instead of Christchurch place? I get so confused and irritated on this sort of meddling.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

17:3873415Its has been renamed because it has been changed to an Academy. Canterbury Christchurch University are the lead sponsors of the new Academy hence the new name. Archers Court School officialy closed 31st August and Dover Christchurch Academy openend 1st September.

18:1373418It's all totally ridiculous. Even our hospitals trust (all lower case to show my disgust) are now a "university". Bloody hell, Buckland Hospital, that decrepit run down place is now a "university".
I won't labour the point but it was daft idea.

18:3873420Yes, thanks Colin, nice to see you too. With "Peter's Plumbing Problems" we ended up at Mandy's.
On the thread point, my wife is so pee'd off with the current ridiculous (yes I use the word again) education situation she's taking early retirement just before Christmas.

19:1173434Christchurch, Canterbury is, of course, the name of the cathedral, hence of the university.

21:5273462If they had to change the name (what a waste of money) it is a shame they did not use a name more suitable to this area, Whitfield Academy would have been better.

23:0773465Now wait a minute... Archers Court changing to an acadamy... called Christchurch? Now I wonder who really is funding that then-one of their most prominent backers maybe?
Never give up...

16:2873527ohh dear ladies and gents... as an alumni of Canterbury Christ Church University they get awfully uppity if its rolled into one word.. its definately Christ Church rather than Christchurch...
and if they are the main backer than why wouldnt they want their name on it?! you would want your name on it if you were sinking bucket loads of money into it..

16:5273533I was interested in finding out what is meant by being a 'sponsor' - does it actually imply financial backing or support in other ways? Went to the Academy website and clicked on the link for 'More about our sponsors' - Page cannot be found. Not a good advert for a school with focus on Maths and Computing.
Like Terry's wife, I was fed up with higher education and decided to get out a couple of years ago by taking retirement as soon as I could. Too much form filling, targets and financial imperatives instead of teaching, and too many students who shouldn't have been there.

13:4073662I was going to make a comment about problems there that a friend who is a subject head had told me but decided better of it.
Now on lunchtime BBC local news is a report of police being called today because the pupils are protesting about timetable changes not working, and an interview with a parent who is taking his son out of school until it's sorted and says the changes haven't worked. Let's hope it's sorted soon for the pupils' sake.

18:0773722Well, my daughter just called me and I saw the news piece on the violence at Christ Church today. Archers Court was never like it, though we did have a school dinner strike back in 1964.
