Where would you go and where would you stay and why... ?

  I'm just reading Lost London 1870-1945 which is now in a paperback format for just £4.99 from WH Smith - an amazing book just goes to show that Dover is just the same as any other place with regards 'heritage' that wasn't thought as such at the time
  
  

  

  
  
  Made me think where I would like to go back to if I had a time machine and where I would go back and stay if I could - what do you think?
  
  I'd like to go back to the 1860/70s and see the Dover Reviews when many thousands of troops decended on the town with mock battles, ships firing and the gun batteries firing away. You could view it from Fort Burgoyne where seating was available to watch it all happening. Must have been an amazing site !!
  
  To go and stay? Now !! I can travel the country and even most of the world in 24 hours, I can communicate with everyone in seconds, knowledge is at the press of a button and more than that medical advances mean I am still here, something that would probably have been impossible 30/40 years ago and I hopefully have another 60 years left !!

  regarding where has to be folkestone road in dover.

  I think I would go back to the 16th century so long as I was fit and reasonably wealthy.

  Actually I had a dream some four years ago or so, in which I did go back in time: after entering the house where we lived in North Camp, which since then has been demolished, I explained to my Dad (in the dream) that they had rebuilt the house following the same plan.
  
  A few nights later in a dream I was in that same house in North Camp looking from the staircase window, and saw a pathway leading to Dover, to the Castle and the Pharos. The Church wasn't visible in the dream.
  
  In another dream not long after, I saw a pathway leading from Eastern Docks straight to the Castle.
  
  So it's Dover for me, now and present, no going back anywhere!

  I would like to back in time to Victorian London. I'd want to meet architect Arthur Beresford Pite to go over his plans for building 30 Euston Square and make one or two changes and additions!

  I'd go back to 1940 Dover to see how the town looked, gauge the mood of the people and the country, and see how my home village of Guston looked. I'd also stash the names of all the Grand National & Derby winners somewhere in my house so that the bookies would keep me in the style to which I'd like to become accustomed!

  interesting year to pick paul, the very first year.a. cup final played at the old wembley stadium, my team played bolton wanderers and because it was not all ticket it is reported that over 200,000 spectators filled the stadium and inevitably spiled onto the pitch delaying kick off.
  
  a lone white police horse and rider eventually got people back to enable the match to be played.
  
  don't know who the prime minister was at the time though.
