Re #2884. Nobody has actually guessed it yet, Howard! However, as we seem to have moved on, it is Victoria Park. It is absolutely fabulous up here, with huge rooms, very high ceilings, magnificent views. No, I am not an estate agent!
The whole block was built around 1865 to provide accommodation for officers at the Castle. The block was constructed as a terrace of individual houses and each officer would have had a complete house. Today the houses are mostly subdivided into flats.
As it was originally a private road, there were gates served by the Gatehouse at the Castle Hill Road end. The Gatehouse is currently up for sale and I hear may be going to auction soon. Just up Castle Hill Road from the Gatehouse is Victoria Park Mews which is where the horses were originally stabled.
