so the cooling towers were opened in 1962 , i can remember that we had to pay to get to thanet via the sandwich toll bridge
but cannot remember what year the toll finished

1977 ron, apparently king canute made the crossing a toll ferry originally.

That's right Howard. I used to work at the Bell Hotel many years ago now. In the wine bar there used to be an original price list of how much each thing would cost to take across i.e cattle, sheep, fair maidens etc...

Did many of us go down to watch it ??? Must admit was pretty amazing well worth seeing.

We got over there about 8.30 and walked down past the metal fabrication factory by about 200 yards give or take so had a great view !! There are some great bits on youtube as well.
