...that is the big question for David Cameron.
I have said before that the coalition will end well before the next general election in time for both parties to re-establish their separate identities.
But when?
It is now less than 2 years until the next election so this question will increasingly be exercising the minds of coalition tacticians. Journalists as well have started speculating, Matthew Parris and Simon Heffer most recently.
Many think a full year is needed, at least, if not 18 months so this is very much the 'hot' political question of the moment.
For me it cannot come soon enough. OK, the passing of any new legislation cannot happen without some kind of 'cessation agreement' but what is more important than that is what Cameron could do without legislation and without having to look over his shoulder all the time.
That is what will be interesting and then we will find out whether Cameron really is a Conservative.
