The post you are reporting:
Keith - yes of course I can defend myself and what's this rubbish about borrowed time - the people know how I work - but as I have said many times before, I would sooner be working on something and getting some action rather than playing with my keyboard telling people what the problem was. This one needed snipping in the bud believe me.
Anyway, let me inform you...........
When I heard about this I walked around the town looking at each individual site in a constructive way and to be honest there are a few guard railings - and this is what we are talking about - not crash barriers which can be seen along Townwall Street that are not of much use - the one at the junction of High Street with Maison Dieu Place for example.
I also contacted Kent Highways - well Jacobs - and actually asked whether the person who compiled the document had been to Dover, as well as the Director for Highways at KCC and the Cabinet Member.
I sent in my submission and invited them to Dover - in fairness I thank John for copying me into his submission that simply said none should be removed in his opinion.
When I met with the Director for Highways he assured me that this issue woiuld come to the Dover Joint Transportation Board and it is scheduled to be on the April agenda. I have since also met with the Director again, the Managing Director for Environment, Highways and Waste and the new Cabinet member on a number of issues, I was advised of the date when this would come to the JTB.
They did come to Dover and again I walked every site with them, yet again, telling them my views as someone who has used Dover's roads all my life, showing them blind spots and where we needed to have motorists know where pedestrians were and not crossing at any point top mention just a couple. I also reminded them that when there are problems on the A2 or the A20 the traffic, usuallty heavy lorrries, use Dover town roads - Dover ain't Maidstone where they have already done this apparently.
I am now comfortable that they have listened but I'm not sure that we won't have to have a long debate at the JTB where each site will need to be taken individually.
Must get cracking now - full diary again today
