What I did on my holidays...
- 22 April 2012 18:52167440Just back from Barcelona visiting the amazing Gaudi architecture in Casa Batllo and Barcelona Cathedral, Pouble Nou Cemetery and the wonderful sculpture parks. The monument from Pouble Nou is El Petó de la Mort, The Kiss of Death sculpture is by Jaume Barba 1930, it represents death as a winged skeleton bestowing a kiss on the lips of a young man. A romantic, highly expressive image which surmounts the tomb of the textile manufacturer Josep Llaudet Soler, where you can read an equally arresting text : "His young heart is thus extinguished. The blood in his veins grows cold. And all strength has gone. Faith has been extolled. By his fall into the arms of death. Amen".

- 22 April 2012 20:04167453It's an amazing place Brian, I had an all too short vist here a couple of years ago and wanted to come back for longer and have a good look around.
Ah yes Tom that would be the blue skies and sunshine. We were blessed with warm sunny weather every day and it was warm enough to wear a t shirt without a coat.
It was a great holiday; the only downside was missing our flight home.
Barcelona airport signage was non existent; we were in the wrong terminal and only located a member of staff and got to the gate 10 minutes before the flight was due to depart. The plane doors had already closed so they wouldn't let us on. There was also a young guy in the same situation. There were no ground staff and little by way of places to get information. In the end we had to pay for new flights, but they could only put us on a Gatwick plane (we had flown from the new Southend airport). We got to take off 3 hours after the flight we had missed; it could have been a lot worse. My husband Les hired a car from Gatwick to drive home and he collected our car from Southend airport later. - 22 April 2012 20:29167458Beautiful photos Jeane and great architecture.
I've often thought of driving down to Barcelona and then catching the ferry to Palma in Majorca, where Jean's daughter lives, but now she's on Haemo-dialysis (Jean that is. not her daughter !), we couldn't do it. Oh well.
