Thinking about the ways in which somebody can be in poverty, I think the question should really be:
"Do only people drinking in poverty live in the Eight Bells?"
As for the welfare state, people must remember that William Beveridge was a believer in eugenics. Perhaps in a perverse way the Eight Bells is trying to address this with cheap booze and steak? We've had Phillip Green advising the government on 'waste' (hilarious)and IDS on 'society', so I think it only right that Tim Martin should perhaps advise the government (or UKIP at least (being a supporter)) on the future of benefit claimants - he could call it 'The Beverage Report'.
