Yesterday was reported as the wettest day in Folkestone for 22 years with around 64 mm. Add in the totals to 12 pm Sunday and a total of 71.2mm (2.8 inches) from 30 hours' rain.
It is possible it was even longer ago that Dover last saw such heavy rain. I suspect the infamous August 1996 thunderstorm when the Pent Stream burst out of its confines and flooded parts of the town was the event 22 years ago. Dover did not get as much rain as Folkestone from that storm. So it's possible it was the wettest day here for even longer, perhaps 1990, or even further back.
Add in the 5 degree temperature and a northerly gale and it was no fun to be out and about. Just as well it wasn't winter or we would have had nearly three feet of snow, plus drifts that can only be guessed at. The worst April day any of us are ever likely to see.
