Western Heights Work Parties - 16th Jan/27th Feb
- 14 January 2011 23:1489009Whilst we are restricted on our indoor activities due to the Drop Redoubt being a winter bat roost, we are evicted into the outside world !!
Over the next couple of months we will be working on the very tree choked North Lines moat between the Drop Redoubt and North Military Road. Although it can look nice the trees start to damage the banks, ivy damage the walls and until a few years ago was home to rare orchids.
We will be meeting at 10:30 on Sundays 16th Jan and 27th Feb and helpers are welcome (though with chainsaws and log chipper on site sensible clothes are needed and not good for children on this occasion).
Next month we will be joined by the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership, in an exchange when we worked with them with scrub clearance where the dexters currently reside.

15 January 2011 08:2589015Good luck with the work, do you think the area will look as awful as the castle did when those trees etc were cut down all those years ago. I hated it at the time but think it was the best thing they have done as it looks great now.

Been nice knowing you :) - 23 February 2011 18:0193917Just a quick reminder that the next work party is this sunday at 10:30am meeting at South Military Road - we will be joining forces with the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership to continue clearing the scrub that has taken over the North Lines Ditch as well as on the ramparts above the BMW Garage. There will be a few bonfires to clear what has been cut down.

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter) - 27 February 2011 19:2694496Oh, I forgot to add - excellent job in the ditch everyone. I don't think I've been able to see the Redoubt moat from the far end of the Military Hill ditch before - it looks brilliant now it's been cleared so thoroughly.
