Arriving at the Eastern Docks DCT yesterday from the Dominican Republic - the 'Luzon Strait' loaded with Geest containers.
I always liked Hunter Davis' childhood memoir book about growing up in post-war Cumbria '
The Co-ops Got Bananas' . Pity we don't have a Co-op in town any more.

I think there is a big problem with the beach though, outside the water sports centre. That will be difficult to fix I think. In fact, if you look at the whole stretch of the beach up to the RCPYC, all looks like it has been affected, very steep...

Thanks Brian. I have used the Coop in River on a few occasions when in the area. But it hardly compensates for a store within walking distance in town. The Coop thrived on in-town shops where those without cars could walk or use public transport. It was their bread and butter. Whilst I know that shopping habits alter and need to be catered for, leaving the town without a Coop is not good - and I have made my view known to MidCounties when they enquired as to why I had not voted at their AGM.

Patrick
Not very long back the Co-op announced that they would be closing large stores and opening more convenience stores in line with changing consumer demands.
Times have changed and many consumers are rejecting the "big trolley shop" as they tend to buy stuff that gets thrown away. Small local shops now are very competitive with a surprisingly large range of groceries, I sometimes use the one next to the bus stop in Market Square and have no complaints.

Patrick, every time I went to the coop at stembrook there seemed to be more staff than custermers.unlike kwick save and Somerfield before hand where staff had a struggle to cope .
