09:5873484Keith,
1. It's FEWER jobs. (you can have less of something if it is a single thing e.g. less hair, less rain, you can only have fewer of a plural, e.g. fewer GCSEs, fewer shoes. So you can have less money but fewer coins).
2. This is a measure of those who are allegedly too sick to work, not a measure of those unemployed.

you may be required to stand in the corner wearing a pointed hat with the letter "d" on, bob is very old fashioned with his teaching methods.

11:0673494And quite right!
From what I saw on the tv prog - which wasn't much, admittedly - it was as much a cultural matter as a sickness matter - which raises the question about the GPs who are doing the signing-off............................

14:3373513I have been surprised that in an era when there are fewer and fewer jobs in the UK requiring 'fitness' i.e. shifting things around against gravity, there is a higher incidence of incapacity benefit.

07:4773588How can one work if ones pinkie finger is compromised? The distraction of the inconvenience must be factored in. And let's not forget those who cannot waddle out of their council houses because the door is too small. Plus it is clearly an infringement of our human rights if we cannot smoke while we work. Apologies in advance
I have interviewed people who thought it was ok to turn up with dirty fingernails and an attitude. Some have arrived a couple of hours late without apology and one asked me if she could still have the job anyway........guess the answer. I always phone those who do not turn up - one told me she had been in the bath but could come in now (this is 3 hours after the interview time) and as her aunt was also working for social services she expected she would get the job anyway so hadn't rushed. Same answer as the last one, sadly. But shorter.

I bow to your experience to date, although jobs may be few, and wages poor
there are jobs out there.
Some people ust have no ntenton of workng when they are quite able to, there the ones who should be targeted.
Of course those unable to work wth good reason should be protected

09:1773602For so many there is no concept of the work ethic and their money is just handed to them too easily.
We had one young lady who was sent to us and on arrival announced she was pregnant and could not move this and that, although us oldies managed quite easily. She never turned up on the second day (excuse accepted doubtfully). Third day we contacted the powers that be to say we did not want her anymore as she was useless and we needed someone who could help not sit in a chair all day.
Thank goodness not all are like her, one young man was most helpful and a good worker.
