Not many (any) comments on this one Howard. I always used to think that the Church should keep out of politics, but as politics plays such a large part in most people's lives, I guess it's inevitable.

not so sure it is about politics roger, just concern that the poor will get poorer. we would have had broadly similar cuts if the reds had been re-elected.

Future Church policies in Britain will allow Parish Churches to each have some land estates where parishioners can be employed; the produce would be stored in Church pantries and used for Communion meals free of charge.
This would be in line with original Communion suppers as described by Saint Paul in the New Testament, when a meal was a meal, not a symbolic piece of bread.
It's a standing policy of the English Church.

The reason I said that Howard, is because the welfare reforms are being brought in by the Government and therefore politics must play a major role - red or blue.

The less one hears of politics, the better.

I often wonder if alexander is realy out there??
Only yesterday on TV a programme showed how churches were closing due to cost/lack of attendance
Should church's and the royal family family involve themselves in politics is quite a big debate

Keith, I was not referring to the current Church of England, but to future Church policies.
Nothing to do with the house of Windsor, and nothing to do with politics, but in connection to a form of welfare within the Church (see thread title: welfare reforms).

As it has nothing to do with politics, probably not, Keith.

Maybe even Barryw would agree that politics affects your every day life
And without doubt welfare reform is very much a political decision

From Howard's link.........."Liam Byrne MP, Labour's Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, said: "The Work Capability Assessment is in need of fast and fundamental reform. Ministers must stop burying their heads in the sand, and fix this mess now."
Too right it does, the whole fiasco needs ditching.
