Hum. If you know Ian as a person, you'll know him to be one of the most likeable of men, and for him to choose to do this highlights, I believe, why this forum is not what it was and why the other forum is likewise struggling.
I've addressed these issues myself on both forums, been banned by Paul Boland for expressing my views too angrily and had a run in with a member here for his continual personal attacks on other people. As far as I'm concerned, both forums are open season for those who wish to abuse individuals in the name of "banter"; on top of that, when feelings run high, that abuse becomes intolerable and, to those not directly involved, utterly tedious.
I guess that Alexander's views are well known to anyone on here who cares to read them; the fact that much of what he writes is complete nonsense to most of us is surely irrelevant and I believe it is to Alexander's credit that he has refrained from comment on this thread. Can we not just focus on what interests us instead of being so damned personal about everyone with whom we disagree?
I've digressed from my point in as much as I have to agree with Ian's protest: there is so little on here worth reading these days that I fully understand why he's quit. If one disregards Alexander's ravings, if one disregards the constant amount of pointless political point scoring, and if one disregards the constant sniping at the council(s) then there is very little worth reading on here. The forum needs to be more diverse and interesting. I still read what interests me, but that is becoming less and less.
