- 13 February 2014 03:46260803WE in the UK have never seen weather like this before flooding over many 100s of miles 1000s made homeless and with out power.WE are the lucky ones and we can help by opening up our parish halls we can man them 24/7. In most parishs we have heating meals can be cooked there. We have O.A.PS like myself that could help to man them.WE CAN SEND OUT A MESSAGE to them that our halls are open that we do care for our own, please come or send members of your family to our centres they are open to try and help you we will even come to pick up points to bring you here ,we are only hours away from the countys that need help.We all saw it on the TV LAST NIGHT a call going out from members of the public there please we need more help and we need councils to do more .We send out aid all round the world this time help is need a few miles down our own rds,we do have funding in most councils for projects etc, but help is needed urgent in fact very urgent in the papers on this very forum and other ones lets send out to them ,saying WE DO CARE WE CAN HELP PLEASE TAKE THE OFFER UP, and if get no one come or only afew it does not matter we are making them fill better knowing we care. As I said we are the lucky ones yes we could just say we feel sorry for them and glad it is not happing to us,or we can help them, I for one would like to help .So let our District council and our parishs councils send that call out to them let us lead and other councils might follow.No more I can say or do but also pray for them ,there will old members of the public out there, heads of familys can stay there with there homes knowing that members of their familys are safe and being looked after.So LETS HELP not just feel sorry for them. 100s of the public just view this forum they can help to by just sending out the word or have fouR wheel cars that can go and get them, bus companys can help. 1000s of our own need help lets show them we do care by helping in anyway we can. Thank you.Please do not come back to me moaning and saying vic matcham is after headlines again that is not true it never has been ,we can help lets do IT.We might even have members of our own familys in all this to.I know I have they can help by geting the word round.I have just phone my family who are in Devon and Longlevens in Gloucester and tukcsbury itself they are all Ok water all round them but are still in their homes but in Tokcsbury river at the bottom of Garden is over the gate and up lawen just a few ft away from the back door ,but water is on the way down again so they do not have to move out again last time it was two years before they got back in.Sorry this last report was done at 0830am thank you.

13 February 2014 08:30260807A nice idea but I fail to see how "parish halls" in Dover can give help such as Vic mentioned to the places that are flooded miles and miles away.
From what I have seen the people in the flooded areas are coping within their own communities extremely well, they have rallied round to help each other in what must be the most awful circumstances one can imagine. The real help they need is now from the professionals like the Environment Agency, insurance companies together with all the other services.
I hope I have understood what you meant above Vic, but can I make a request for you to use paragraphs it would make these long rambling posts so much easier to read.

- 13 February 2014 10:04260819Vic , I fully understand your sentiments but most of those who have suffered flooding are being looked after by their local communities as Jan points out.
The unfortunate people whose homes and property have been damaged will now face the task of contacting insurance companies to start the process of making a claim. To do this they will need to be able to produce evidence and for that reason they need to be close to home.
Most insurers will have put those who have no hope of returning home into hotels.
The impact on businesses cannot be fully assess until waters subside. I was pleased to hear that they have been given a few months grace on their Tax returns!
The cost of produce and meat will undoubtably rocket due to this freak weather.Farming communities transporting animal feed from the north to the worst hit areas in the south shows how practical support delivered to the source of the problem is often better than trying to move people away.
