This reminds me of happy moments from my childhood (cue strings?).
My father once worked in a Paper Mill in Scotland that was served by an old coastal cargo vessel named "The Bromley".
Just saying, is all.

- 27 August 2011 17:27123331Here is the Waverley off Dover Harbour just a few years ago. It used to do runs to London from the admiralty pier as I remember...popular day excursions to Tower Bridge.
Although the feature above says it still doing those excursions I havent seen it myself in Dover for quite a while.

27 August 2011 17:57123339Dover Harbour Board put up the mooring fees Paul making it unviable to run from Dover. It is a charity and money is tight.

- 28 August 2011 03:01123376The two photos below were taken as the Waverley was stooging around off the Eastern Entrance last October whilst engaged in taking film footage during the making of the new Sherlock Holmes film. She then entered and took bunkers at the Admiralty Pier. Normally she calls at Dover once or twice a year whilst on a positioning trip round from the South Coast to the Thames to run a series of Thames cruises. Regrettably, these calls will now be omitted as the Waverleys operators say increased berthing charges make them unviable despite DHB giving them a discount as a charity.
- 28 August 2011 08:07123394Interesting pictures there Ed and info. Wonder how stable she was/is on the ocean as it were, in that shot with the P&O ferry it looks a tad rough. She looks like a vessel better suited for river cruises.
I remember I used to see quite a large crowd getting onboard from admiralty pier and used to wonder how many of them would make it to Tower Bridge without chucking up. Always the pessimist!lol In the picture in post 4 you can just make out how packed she was with enthusiastic travellers.
email: dover7@msn.com - 28 August 2011 10:57123425I think the DHB should offer a little bit more than a charity discount (it used to be 33.3%), with the historical connections to the port why not offer the berth and services for free (they get enough profits!). It would be a shame to lose another link to the past.
