With the water shortage are we still expected to wash cans and jars before we put them in the bins?
Just wondering

yes,but theres a trick worth pondering.when you do the washing up [by hand, not dishwasher],before you empty the bowl/sink wash your tins and jars.

Even without a water shortage one wonders how green it is to wash out cans and bottles with hot water before recycling when it must all be done again when they get processed.

Well done you Brian.
Where would we be if there were no requirement to rinse? Half empty/full tins of this and that, just leave the lid of your food-waste box and find out.

We have no dish washer and always wash cans and jars at the end of washing up or while we wait for the hot water to run hot prior to washing up. They do not have to be sparkling clean just free of food residue. Those who use a dishwasher could use a bucket of soapy bath water.

I am one of the rebels who refuses to clutter up my tiny front garden with plastic coffins. The powers that be will not let us have purple sacks despite the fact that neighbours (some of whom are younger and fitter than us) have them. We continue to use the black box and blue sack for their original purpose which are stored in the cellar. Therefore I always rinse at the end of washing up otherwise we would have an "Elf and Safety" issue!
