  some of you may know harry, a veteran of the desert campaign in north africa. one of the most amiable people you could wish to meet and his warm humour lights up the riverside centre all week.
  
  he had a bad fall earlier in the year and broke his hip, naturally the recovery period was long as he is 93.
  
  to my surprise he turned up this morning and stood all through the ceremony with his walking aid, one of nature's true gentleman.

  just his sense of fun roger, he had a fall a year or so back that left him with 2 black eyes, he told everyone "her husband came home unexpectedly".

  Have just had the first opportunity to show Harold this wonderful posting and photo and to say he was pleased is an understatement. I asked him what the lower medal was for and with absolute modesty he said ' I was one of those chaps who fought the perimeter rear guard action whilst they were evacuating my mates at Dunkirk and they gave us a medal and a certificate for it'. What a man.

  sounds very much like the dry wit of harry.
  
  someone told me this afternoon that the son he went to stay with when recovering from his was in his 70's and couldn't keep up with him!!

  leave it with me ken, not sure how to work the machine at boots myself but i know someone who can.
