Wow, thanks Kath. From memory I would say it's on the right hand side going towards Maison Dieu between the bomb site just before Spring Gardens and the rear entrance to the ironmongers (Morecrofts) which was in the High Street. At 54 were the Hoffmeyers, next door was Mrs Bushell, she was renowned as the street's nosey person. Next to her was Andy Claw who before he retired had a fish shop further down the road.

Going towards the High Street was Sid Castle's scrapyard and next to that the Friend In Need run by Rene Maxted.

I'm afraid I can't remember who ran the Globe on the other side of the road.

I spent my formative years playing cowboys and indians on the bomb site by the way, the craters made perfect hiding places. Halcyon days.

    Terry
